One Gross One Net Golf Format
One Gross One Net is a team golf format that rewards both raw skill and smart use of handicaps. On each hole, the team’s score is the sum of the lowest gross score and the lowest net score from different team members. This creates a natural pairing where your best raw scorer and your best net scorer both contribute every hole.

The Rules
- Each player on the team plays their own ball for the entire hole.
- After all players have holed out, the team identifies the player with the lowest gross score (actual strokes taken).
- From the remaining players (excluding the gross ball player), the team identifies the player with the lowest net score (strokes minus handicap strokes received on that hole).
- The team’s hole score is the sum of those two scores: lowest gross + lowest net.
- After all 18 holes, the team with the lowest combined total wins.
Example Hole
A two-person team plays a par 4. Player A has a 6 handicap, Player B has an 18 handicap. Player B receives 1 stroke on this hole.
Squabbit evaluates both possible pairings:
Scoring Options
One Gross One Net supports the following scoring methods:
Stroke Play (default)
The team’s combined gross + net strokes are added up over 18 holes. Lowest total wins.
Stableford
Each player earns Stableford points per hole. On each hole, the best gross Stableford score and the best net Stableford score (from a different player) are summed. Highest combined point total wins.
Match Play (VS games only)
When playing as a VS game between two teams, each hole is won, lost, or tied based on the combined gross + net scores. The team that wins the most holes wins the match.
Setting Up in Squabbit
To create a One Gross One Net game in Squabbit:
- Create a new tournament or casual game.
- Under format, choose One Gross One Net.
- Set your team size. The default is 2 players per team.
- Handicaps are enabled by default — this is required for the net score calculation.
- Optionally change the scoring type from Stroke Play to Stableford.
- Add players and assign them to teams.
During the round, each player enters their own scores normally. Squabbit automatically determines which player’s gross and net scores to use on each hole, and highlights the chosen scores on the scorecard with “G” (gross) and “N” (net) indicators.
